PTSA meeting: winter events and fundraising

Kimball PTSA Virtual Meeting 6 -7 PM

Short introductions were done, Josh Williams joined to discuss Math Night

EVENTS

  • Math Night: January 29th 6-7PM
  • Collaborating with Ms. Eaton
  • Math games in the gym
  • Potluck style
  • Mostly needs help with getting the word out, some 5th graders will help do games with Mathnasium and some parents
  • Needs: support with making sure the food is there and helping with games
  • Pretty short event so if folks want to stay the whole time – 2hrs for set up/ help/ and clean up and thinks just a handful of volunteers
  • Claire planned to send out the volunteer sign-up.
  • PTSA will provide paper plates, cups, and cutlery
  • A future special-education family gathering and newsletter announcement were discussed.
  • Lunar New Year – February 27th 5:30 to 7:30
  • Can anticipate 400 to 500 people,
  • PTSA provides budget for the food, and we have asked to contribute potluck in the past.
  • Tammy volunteered to order the food but need help with picking up (4-5), 1-2 volunteers to transports from loading area to the lunchroom, and serving the food (6, 2 per section).
  • Maybe have a sign-up genius in the next Cougar Connection. Kimball contacts for the event: Ms. Johnson and Ms. Gamboa
  • Add to Math Night Sign up Genius or after Math Night

SESSFA

  • Need to pick a day
  • Set up team page
  • We will get a budget for this
  • Anticipating doing another day like last year
  • Still lots of confusion around what SESSFA is and how it’s connected to the move-a-thon
  • Give back % in SESSFA MOU is staying at 7%
  • SESSFA funding comprises about 60% of our general funds
  • Claire planned to coordinate with Mr. Dennis; the remainder of this action item is incomplete in the source.

Fundraising:

  • Discussion around comfort level for fundraising
  • How to communicate when we ask and why
  • Are the low effort ways to raise some more money
  • The notes identify a communication gap but do not complete the description.
  • Someone to take on Lunar New Year posting of a QR code
  • Matt volunteered to take on a QR code and posting at Lunar New Year
  • F/U to do the same at multi-cultural night April 30th 5-7 PM
  • Homer and Milk Drunk restaurant do quarterly donation dinners, they have volunteers to do one for Kimball and Beacon Hill Elementary – February 23rd We can also share our QR code for additional donations to the school and they will share out information about Kimball.

5th grade parents want to share about the Beacon Hill food forest for disaster planning

5th grade promotion is coming up

  • In the pat 4th grade parents have supported the promotion so there is year to year continuity and 5th grade parents can participate
  • Claire will look for a volunteer

Current budget gap for fully passed budget is $6K. There are hard commitments that we have made for Team Read and the playground supervisor. We promise teachers reimbursement and, but not all teachers use it, and not all grades use their field trip money.

Kristen is still looking for support for Kimball Kitchen and Teacher Appreciation night

The past few years Kimball kitchen has fully funded the multi-cultural night

Still need parents for kindergarten info sessions.

They are posted on Facebook pages and can go in a boost them!
