General Meeting: School Operations and Fundraising
Meeting held via Zoom. The next meeting was planned for December 10, in person, with childcare.
Updates from Principal Bogan
- Hinds Street adjacent to the school is now closed for driving or parking, SDOT has posted street signs. We need fliers to be translated.
- Conferences before Thanksgiving: Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, faculty off Wednesday. This will allow families who work M-F to attend.
- Neighborhood safety preparedness was discussed.
Future PTSA Meetings - boosting attendance and ensuring many communities we represent are represented.
- Principal Bogan offered meeting with officers the week before to shape agenda.
- She also suggested sending the agenda out ahead of time to pique interest in specific topics.
- We are down PTSA officers - many other PTSA have 2 people in roles for succession planning. We have no one in VP, and could use back ups for President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
Questions about Music .5 FTE
- Position was reduced by SPS in advance of expected enrollment losses, which then didn’t occur.
- The reduced music position affected available scheduling.
- 5th grade is still represented in 2 classes for PCP (art, music, gym) - along with teacher’s aides.
- While there are more classrooms, there aren’t enough students to qualify us for additional funding (it’s on a weighted basis and there would have to be 18 classes, we’re at 17).
- Creative Advantage and [Rhapsody Project](https://therhapsodyproject.org/) were suggested as programs that might provide additional arts programming.
- Principal Bogan will look into those options.
- Past partnerships with local arts organizations were discussed.
- Possible outreach to local arts organizations was discussed.
Open Enrollment is earlier this year - questions about tours?
- Tours will start in January - 1/16 at 9am
- January 23rd, evening tour 6pm.
- First Tuesday tours from 9-9:30: May 5th and June 2nd.
- Would testimonials help drive enrollments?
- Website updates with public-facing information were discussed.
- Family testimonials for the website were suggested.
Fundraising
- We passed a negative budget last year, so some fundraising will have to happen. Will send out holiday asks in Cougar Connection.
- Employers matching gifts drive - Benevity processes those for us.
- The After School Clubs budget is balanced with all kids who need one getting a scholarship.
- 5th Grade Camp Trip Funding Question - historically there had been an overnight outdoor education camp, but it hasn’t happened for the past few years due to teacher’s not feeling it was worthwhile. There is still some budget for meaningful field trips for 5th Graders.
