General Meeting: Field Trips, Staffing, and Family Events
The school reported new-building progress, a special-education staffing vacancy, and a long-term substitute.
**Hoping to do some sort of open house in the summer **
**Islandwood - very excited that field trips are happening again! 2nd graders went to discovery park, 4th graders went to Beacon Hill LIbrary and will go to nutcracker next week. Reminder for parent chaperones, you need to have your volunteer forms ready. They are also looking forward to Islandwood on the first week of May. **
**Question: How to make sure Islandwood is sustainable for our students? We are likely to continue to get the grant. There are other camps and we could do some comparison shopping. **
**How are we doing on the free and reduced lunch forms? Melissa will check on the return rate for these. This is where we get our title one status money. This paperwork is really important to Kimball. **
Color Brave Space - Carrie learning in public.
The school reported a need for recess and lunch volunteers and continued substitute coverage challenges.
**If there is any interest in family nights that need a staff volunteer Josh is willing to help with that. **
**Breakout rooms. **
**Islandwood lots of students getting on to the bus and then having to get off of the bus and then get back on. **
**Simple family evenings at the school. Maybe a game night with just a few staff. **
**Used to have a math night (possibly with external funding). I think it was a school organized activity, with some PTSA support. **
Lunar New Year planning considered additional Lion Dance performance time, a February 2 event, potluck, and restaurant food.
**Parkour - after school program - 12 slots available. **
A $15,000 school grant and PTSA funding for Islandwood were discussed; the PTSA decided to fund $8,000 that year while considering long-term sustainability.
**Potential to look at other camps that might be more affordable for next year. **
