Fundraising Meeting — Move-A-Thon, traditions, and Kimball Kitchen

The meeting aimed to review prior fundraising and plan the fall while considering which traditions to retain.

-Figure out context to start a conversation with the group so that in next few weeks / next working meeting we can hash out ideas and make a start of a plan for fall

-Keep in mind ask / thank /

-Weigh how important certain traditions are - what might be lost if we skip something or let go of something completely?

Alaron 2021 Moveathon update:

~$193,000 total

$14,500 will come to Kimball from last year’s Moveathon(!)

Goal was $10,000 / school

Hope to do it again as early in Spring for weather to accommodate (May-ish)

Hope for kids to do parts of it during the school day (stations like our previous Field Days)

Michelle B interested in joining Alaron in Moveathon meetings

They are balancing having enough folks but not too many people

New model w/ smaller groups (finance, swag, website)

Then a rep from each school come to a ~15 person planning group

Question for group: If we do Moveathon in spring, what, if anything, do we do with our Walkathon?

A discussion within Moveathon team - some schools are weighing whether Moveathon will be our only

  • Options for us:

Community-building events that happen to make some money (Kimball Kitchen)

Spring Fling? (bringing ppl together)

Historic notes on Kimball fundraising:

  • Last Walkathon raised $28,000

  • Art Walk (technically a school event to highlight kid art/work, bring attention to BH businesses): ~$2,000

  • Spring Fling (auction & activity tickets): ~$2,000

  • Corporate matching

  • After school program used to inadvertently raise money

Idea - move one of these historically spring events to the fall

Could Ms Fairbairn help organize an Art Walk type event?

The group discussed preserving community traditions and considering a fall move-your-body event, a preview to Move-A-Thon, and Kimball Kitchen.

-It becomes a fall move-your-body event

-It could be a precursor/preview to Moveathon

-People could, if they wanted, donate online to Moveathon website

-Hope that some of the festivity and momentum that we had around Walkathon (Cougar visiting classrooms, etc) could be rolled into Moveathon

Could there be an Art Walk that happens over a couple of weeks?

Could we do Kimball Kitchen in the fall/winter?

Maybe tie into an online gathering to learn more about the recipes

Action items:

Michelle B will ask Kristen about the possibility of Kimball Kitchen in fall/winter

Michelle B will get info from Alaron to report on Moveathon via CC

Alaron will ask Ms Fairbairn about the possibility of a version of Art Walk
